Michigan agriculture is incredibly diverse with close to 300 different crops in commercial production. Michigan Ag Today is the only state farm radio network dedicated to serving this diversity. This year, the network began producing a series of feature programs focused on several of Michigan’s largest specialty crops.
This spring special reports tracked the planting of the state’s sugar beet crop. These reports featured updates from the field as well as processor and industry experts. A similar program tracking the sugar beet harvest is planned for this fall.
In June, Michigan Ag Today farm director Ashley Davenport began producing a series of potato reports. Michigan is a leading potato producing state, and the crop represents a significant part of the state’s agricultural economy. The reports features comments from growers and industry representatives and will focus on demand as well as production and crop protection issues.
“We have been in touch with a number of different and diverse organizations representing a many different crops about adding special features to our programing in the months to come, ” said Gary Truitt, President of Michigan Ag Today.
