U.S. corn and soybean planting progress jumped last week.
The USDA says that as of Sunday, 80% of U.S. corn is planted, compared to 67% a week ago and the five-year average of 68%, with 41% of the crop emerged, compared to 35% on average.
61% of U.S. soybeans are planted, compared to 42% last week and 37% on average, while 20% has emerged, compared to the normal pace of 12%.
48% of the U.S. winter wheat crop is in good to excellent condition, down 1% on the week and 4% on the year, with 53% of the crop headed, compared to 58% on average.
85% of spring wheat is planted, compared to 71% typically in mid-May, with 47% of the crop emerged, compared to 36% on average.
38% of U.S. cotton is planted, compared to the usual rate of 40%.
87% of the rice crop is planted, compared to the five-year average of 81%, and 63% has emerged, compared to 64% on average, with 74% of the crop rated good to excellent, 1% more than a year ago.
23% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent shape, 1% more than the previous week, but 22% less than this time last year.
The USDA’s next set of production estimates is out June 10th.
